Chino Y Chicano
Facing race in AmericaAbout Chino Y Chicano
Chino y Chicano is a podcast with a mission to dish on the good, the bad, and the ugly of what people of color face in America. Hosted by veteran journalist Enrique Cerna, the show features guests who explore the complexities of race. Take a listen to the episodes here.
The Chino y Chicano podcast launched in 2022 with co-hosts Matt Chan, “The Chino,” and Enrique Cerna, “The Chicano.” Both spent their careers in television. Chan created the cable series "Hoarders," while Cerna worked as a Seattle broadcast journalist for 43 years. After Chan died on March 30, 2024, following a battle with kidney cancer, Cerna committed to continuing the podcast in his honor.
Chino y Chicano host Enrique Cerna is joined by his cousin Manuel “Manolo” Serna of Torreón, Mexico, for a candid conversation about Cinco de Mayo. They discuss the holiday’s true history, how it is celebrated on both sides of the border, and Manolo’s lived perspective. They also get into frank political discussions, including how many Mexicans view U.S. involvement in Mexican politics, crackdowns on cartels, immigration, and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
