In 1995, the Vancouver Police Pipe Band traveled from Canada to Seattle to perform at a memorial service for four firefighters who died in the Mary Pang warehouse fire. Inspired by that tribute, a group of Seattle firefighters formed the Seattle Firefighters Pipes and Drums. Their mission was to honor fallen firefighters and police officers in the Seattle area. Since 2004, the band has performed across the country—from Alaska to New York—playing in parades and opening for popular music acts. Throughout it all, they have remained committed to their core purpose: honoring those who have served in the line of duty.
