New policing strategy brings security & connection to the International District
CityStream: New SPD strategy in the ID
5/17/20186:03

Seattle's International District is beloved for its rich history, culture and customs. It's one of 57 micro communities in Seattle with distinct problems and needs. One longtime problem in the I.D. - residents didn't feel safe. They felt ignored by police. SPD listened and made changes. For years, I-5 divided the community into two police precincts. Not anymore. Little Saigon, east of I-5, is now part of the West Precinct, bringing the neighborhood under the same command. Response times are down, and the community feels more connected. In addition, police collaborated with Seattle University researchers to pinpoint what International District residents and business owners really care about. Linda Byron has the story.
