"If we love someone, we don't give up on them." Dr. Amy Barden is the chief of Seattle’s third emergency response branch, the Community Assisted Response and Engagement (CARE) team. She approaches her work with compassion, viewing first responders as her bosses, including not just firefighters, police officers, and EMTs, but also 911 dispatchers, who are part of the CARE team. Barden recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at the department and the path that led her to its leadership.
