Ginger Kwan discovered her purpose in life after she was inspired by the love for her autistic son. She soon realized a greater need, especially within communities of color. In 2009, she started Open Doors for Multicultural Families. It serves people with developmental and intellectual disabilities, providing them resources, services, and most importantly, a voice. Her commitment to the community has earned her the Roberto Maestas Legacy Award. It recognizes those who advance the work of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Beloved Community" where people of all races unite to end racism and poverty. Enrique Cerna has more.
