If it's been several years since your last visit to Woodland Park Zoo, chances are good the animals you saw then are still there. Advanced medical treatments used for humans are also helping zoo animals live longer, less painful lives. This includes laser therapy for penguins to ease their aching joints, acupuncture for ailing bunnies, even advanced hernia surgery for gorillas. In some cases, the same specialists that perform surgery at UW Medical Center also operate on the zoo's primates. Jenny Cunningham has more.
