On Tuesday, Mayor Katie B. Wilson signed her landmark Rental Junk Fees legislation that she developed over months in close collaboration with Seattle City Councilmember Dionne Foster. Mayor Wilson transmitted this legislation in July and the Seattle City Council, in an 8-0 vote, passed the rental junk fee legislation, advancing her affordability agenda. The legislation—one of the strongest in the country— will eliminate rental junk fees like administrative service fees, pet rent and package fees; require clear, upfront pricing for tenants; and strengthen enforcement to support a predictable and equitable rental market.
Speakers:
Mayor Katie B. Wilson, City of Seattle
Erika Evans, City Attorney, City of Seattle
Lam Ho, General Manager, Transit Riders Union
Kate Rubin, Organizing Director, Be:Seattle
