A statewide proposal to give low-income residents a guaranteed monthly income for two years is gaining traction. We examine Tacoma’s recent experiment with granting families $500 monthly for a year, and hear whether the Evergreen Basic Income Pilot Program might be a viable path out of poverty or the wrong way to spend taxpayer funds.
