The annual Bumbershoot Festival kicks off this Labor Day weekend, and Vanishing Seattle is bringing a fun, interactive exhibition at the International Fountain Pavilion's A/NT Gallery. Titled "My City's Filthy," the show features more than 60 artists and 120 works, including photos, videos, sculptures, and artifacts from some of Seattle’s beloved places that are now gone. A live mic stage will showcase musicians, poets, dancers, and other performers throughout the festival.
Vanishing Seattle documents displaced and disappearing institutions, and founder Cynthia Brothers calls this exhibit a departure from her usual artifact displays. She says it is exciting to see artists interpret their memories and the impact those places had on them. The exhibit runs throughout the festival, and for those who miss it, Brothers notes that an art book will capture everything she helped collect.
