Teaching artist Sumayya E. Diop shares her passion for dance, drum, and song by teaching viewers about Griots (storytellers) and the Sankofa bird, exploring the ideas of story, lineage, and time before diving into the music and the rhythms of her other lessons. This video, the first in the series, includes warm-up exercises for body and voice. This lesson is great for learners of all ages, particularly youth grades K-8.
