Calling a cab in Seattle has changed dramatically
City Inside/Out: Cab Controversy
11/15/201329:29

With a rise in ride-sharing and for-hire services, calling a cab in Seattle has changed dramatically in the last 18 months. App-powered ride-sharing services are picking up passengers across the city, and traditional cab drivers are pushing back. Will the Seattle City Council decide to allow or ban these new services, such as Lyft, Uber and SideCar, that use smartphone apps to connect passengers with drivers? It`s turning into a technological showdown. Our studio guests include Mike O`Brien, Vice-Chair of the City Council`s Committee on Taxi, For-Hire and Limousine Regulations, John Zimmer, co-founder and president of Lyft, Parminder Cheema, a Yellow Cab driver and member of the Western Washington Taxi Cab Operators Association and blind rideshare user Mike Mello.
