The meeting focused on the progress of the Burke Gilman trail maintenance, the importance of the environmental education program, and the potential budget cuts and privatization of the Environmental Education Department. Concerns were raised about the proposed fee increase for renting volleyball courts at Alpine Golden Gardens and the need for better facilities and more places to play beach volleyball. The Seattle Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners is a volunteer advisory board established by ordinance. The Board consults with and makes recommendations to the City Council, the Mayor, and the Superintendent regarding Seattle Parks and Recreation's policies for the planning, development and use of the City's park and recreation facilities. And, provides oversight of the projects, programs, and services undertaken jointly by the City and the Seattle Park District, pursuant to the interlocal agreement between The City of Seattle and the Seattle Park District.
