A controversial proposal in Olympia that requires cities to change their zoning laws to allow more duplexes or quadplexes may be dead this session but has opened the door to a fierce debate. Supporters say permitting more density near transit stops will relieve a statewide housing shortage and end discriminatory zoning. Critics say a one-size-fits-all approach to so-called "missing middle housing" misses the mark. We hear from both sides.
