Seattle Mayor Jenny A. Durkan signs two pieces of legislation. The first establishes the 15th Avenue East Business Improvement Area (BIA) on Capitol Hill; and the second allows long-term affordable housing development on religious property.

The 15th Avenue BIA was proposed by the 15th Avenue Merchant's Association to the Office of Economic Development, with petition support exceeding 72 percent from the business district. The 15th Avenue BIA upon Mayoral signature will become our 11th BIA in Seattle.

Over the past year, the City of Seattle Office of Housing and Office of Planning and Community Development have worked with faith-based stakeholders to implement SHB1377 at the local level. This ordinance implements a tool that allows faith communities to redevelop their land with income-restricted, permanently affordable homes affordable to households at or below 80 percent Area Median Income ($65,000 for an individual).

Speakers include:
Mayor Jenny A. Durkan
Pamela Banks, Office of Economic Development Interim Director
Danielle Hulton, Owner Ada Technical Books
Rico Quirindongo, Office of Planning and Community Development Director
Donald King, President and CEO of the Nehemiah Initiative
