The Trades Related Apprenticeship Coaching (TRAC) program offers inmates at Washington State Corrections Center for Women training for non-traditional female jobs as carpenters, laborers, and iron workers. The program is offered in the last year of incarceration so that graduates can step out of prison prepared for competitive entry into a union apprenticeship. Participants are taught self-confidence and self-esteem as well as job skills. While the average rate for women re-offending is close to 50%, fewer than 5% of TRAC graduates re-offend. With union jobs, paying livable wages and benefits, these women experience a new start on life. Produced by Chuck Bolland Productions.
