Councilmember Kshama Sawant (District 3, Central Seattle), chair of the Council's Human Services, Equitable Development and Renters Rights committee, announces plans for two major renters rights ordinances. First, a measure to enact a comprehensive, citywide rent control ordinance without corporate loopholes, designed to take effect the moment the state Legislature lifts the ban on rent regulation; and second, the Economic Evictions Assistance Ordinance - a measure to immediately protect tenants against huge rent increases.
