10/1/20164:00
On Saturday, October 1, 2016, Plaza Roberto Maestas officially opened. Built on an old gravel lot at Beacon Hill's El Centro de La Raza, this new addition includes:112 units of new, affordable housing, seven classrooms, a 6,000-square-foot multicultural community space, a bilingual childcare center and a spacious plaza with room for 20 micro-retail start-ups. Named after their founder, Plaza Roberto Maestas will also host events like outdoor movie nights and festivals, and provide a place for food trucks. They'll even open a new commercial kitchen with an expanded lineup of classes. On hand for the ribbon cutting were Mayor Ed Murray, Councilmember Lorena González and Estela Ortega, the late Roberto Maestas wife.
