EMP Pop Conference '07: How the Rocket Fell to Earth
EMP Pop Conference '07: How the Rocket Fell to Earth

From 1981 until late 2000, bi-monthly music paper the Rocket covered the exploding music communities in Seattle and Portland with a commitment to local music and culture that remains unmatched to this day. The Rocket was founded by Seattle Sun editor Bob McChesney in order to compete with the music coverage in the Seattle Weekly and focus more coverage on local acts, and launched the careers of Ann Powers and Charles Cross, among many others.  Freelance writer, and former Rocket staffer, Cortney Harding explores the Rocket's launch and beginnings, its contributions to the greater Northwest music scene during the eighties and nineties, and the fact that it is unlikely to ever be replicated again.
