The birth of any animal at Woodland Park Zoo is special. But, a baby giraffe? That was cause for celebration and fanfare. However, a short time after little Hasani was born, zookeepers noticed a problem. He had a serious defect that, if left untreated in the wild, would have shortened his life. After consulting with other zoos and using a bit of ingenuity, Hasani was outfitted with special shoes to help correct his walk. Not only did it work, but Hasani's plight is now being used as a teaching moment to highlight the differences between us all and to show compassion. Nicole Sanchez explains.
