Battling brain injuries & preparing for disasters on CityStream
CityStream: Brain Trauma & Disaster Class
5/24/201826:05

Two new medical studies, one of them local, link traumatic brain injury (TBI) to an increased risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. But for those suffering from TBI, there are ways to fight back. Prevention begins with physical, dietary and lifestyle changes to lower the risk of developing dementia and disease. Also, first responders bring the "disaster to class," teaching high school students how to take care of themselves if catastrophe strikes. But, it doesn't end there. They're also encouraged to share what they learned with others. Plus, a little-known Seattle foundation is having a tremendous impact - saving countless lives in some of the poorest countries on Earth. Host Nicole Sanchez has these stories from the Allen Institute.
