Mayor Jenny A. Durkan and the Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL) hosted a Seattle Promise Community Discussion at Garfield High School.  As one of her first actions, Mayor Durkan signed an Executive Order creating the Seattle Promise College Tuition program. The Seattle Promise College Tuition program will expand on the 13th Year Promise Scholarship program which includes students from three high schools - Chief Sealth, Cleveland, and Rainier Beach - and will provide two free years of college, reducing or removing the financial barriers that keep some students from earning a degree, credential or certificate. Beginning in the Fall of 2018, current 13th Year Promise Scholarship students will be eligible for a 14th year, and Seattle Promise will expand to three additional schools, including Garfield, Ingraham, and West Seattle.
