Office of Sustainability & Environment's Environmental Justice Fund 5-Year Celebration
5/8/202534:27

The Office of Sustainability and Environment (OSE) released their Environmental Justice (EJ) Fund 5-year Impact Report which highlights investments made in community-led environmental and climate justice efforts focused on projects between 2018 and 2022.

The Impact Report revealed that Seattle awarded more than $2.6 million to 43 groups for 53 total community-led climate projects in the program’s first 5 years. In that time, community groups requested $10.7 million from the Fund to support their projects, ranging from sharing climate stories through arts and writing, to boots-on-the-ground (or in the mud) environmental restoration work.

The Environmental Justice Fund supports local efforts that are led by and benefit communities most impacted by environmental and climate issues: Black, Indigenous, People of Color, immigrants, refugees, people with low incomes, youth, and elders.

Speakers include:

Mayor Bruce Harrell, City of Seattle

Ximena Fonseca Morales – Environmental Justice Fund Strategic Advisor, OSE (Emcee)

Marcos Martinez – Director of Human Services,  El Centro de la Raza

Lylianna Allala – Deputy Director, Seattle OSE

César Garcia – Co-Director, Lake City Collective

Romajean Thomas – Program Director, FEED 7 Generations
