Each year, El Centro de la Raza honors its founder by presenting the Roberto Maestas Legacy Awards. Honorees exemplify Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Building the Beloved Community" through multi-racial unity and working to eliminate poverty and racism. This year's recipients are Dr. Estell Williams, a surgeon at UW Medical Center, and her husband Edwin Lindo, an assistant dean at UW. They are co-founders of "Estelita's Library," a community library and bookstore that concentrates on social justice and ethnic studies. Enrique Cerna has their story.
