Gallery ONYX provides a welcome spot for artists of African descent to display their work no matter their resumes. Gallery co-founder Ernie Thomas recalls numerous stories from talented artists turned away from other galleries because they had never shown their art before. He says that practice creates a void, preventing African Americans from chronicling their daily experience. Now, thanks to Gallery ONYX, artists say they have an outlet to express a cultural language that comes out in their work. Producer Randy Eng takes a look.
