Virtual From Hiroshima to Hope commemorates all victims of violence
CityStream: Virtual From Hiroshima to Hope Event Commemorates Victims of Violence
8/18/20204:20

2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the nuclear devastation that ravaged Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Each year since 1984, the victims have been honored in Seattle through the annual remembrance From Hiroshima to Hope. The culmination is a stunning display of floating lanterns on Green Lake, each one representing someone lost to violence. COVID-19 forced the cancellation of this year's ceremony, but organizers invited supporters to create a peace lantern on their own. As producer Ian Devier explains, the lanterns commemorate not only those who died in the nuclear attacks on Japan, but those lost worldwide to all types of violence.
