On the Frontlines of COVID-19 in King County
On the Frontlines of COVID-19 in King County
6/17/20207:03

As Washington State began tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, faced with the likelihood of rising numbers of coronavirus cases in the state, Public Health Seattle and King County decided to build a makeshift field hospital in a soccer field in Shoreline. The facility, called the Shoreline Assessment Center and Recovery Center (ACRC) provided free COVID-19 testing and treatment to coronavirus patients who were either homeless or otherwise without access to healthcare. Among the nurses leading the efforts at the Shoreline ACRC was Jennifer Graves, Regional Chief Nurse for Kaiser Permanente Washington.

The large two-tent structure was equipped with necessities and comforts to accommodate the more than 140 patients it could house. Patients were encouraged to stay there through the prescribed two-week isolation period for those recovering from coronavirus.

The Shoreline ACRC was a feat of public, private, and non-profit organizations coming together to tackle the pandemic in their community and provide healthcare to those most in need.
