Vietnamese American novelist and professor Viet Thanh Nguyen talks with host Nancy Pearl about his influences and personal history and the process of writing three celebrated books published in less than three years. Nguyen's Pulitzer Prize-winning debut novel, "The Sympathizer," is a gripping espionage tale, which he followed with a companion nonfiction book "Nothing Ever Dies: Vietnam And The Memory Of War." His latest book "The Refugees," is a best-selling short-story collection written over a period of 20 years, exploring questions of immigration, identity, love, and family.
