Book Lust with Nancy Pearl featuring Ari Berman

The Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965 has never gotten as much attention as other parts of the Civil Rights Movement. Nancy Pearl talks with Ari Berman, author of Give Us the Ballot, The Modern Struggle for Voting Rights in America, a narrative history of the Voting Rights Act. Berman discusses highlights of the VRA, how it transformed American politics and democracy, and the counterrevolution that it sparked. He also talks about how a recent Supreme Court decision to strike down key parts of the VRA might affect the 2016 election, the first presidential election in 50 years without the full protection of the VRA.
