Some Seattle officers have been testing a policing strategy that helps low-level offenders get off the streets for longer than a night spent in jail or detox. The Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion or LEAD program was launched in 2011 with a commitment "to improving public safety and public order, and reducing the criminal behavior of people who participate in the program."
