Rapid growth created an urgent need for a major new roadway. The Alaskan Way Viaduct was part of the solution. But why was it elevated? And which city official said, "...it isn't beautiful." And who proposed a tunnel under the city way back then? Producer Randy Eng has all the answers as he explores the viaduct's early years.
