Press Conference: Libraries for All 9/12/2008 The Seattle Public Library recently completed a 10-year, $290 million capital building program called "Libraries for All." On Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, the Library held a press conference to release a community report (available at www.spl.org) detailing the results of Libraries for All, which included the construction of the spectacular Central Library, the building of four new libraries in communities without Library service and the replacement, expansion or renovation of 22 existing branches. The report also revealed how Libraries for All spurred innovation in technology, sustainability and programming. The press conference features Library Interim Chief Executive Marilynne Gardner, former City Librarian Deborah L. Jacobs, Former Mayor Greg Nickels, Central Library co-architect Joshua Prince-Ramus, Library Board member Gilbert W. Anderson and Library Board President Eric Liu. |

Seattle Poet Populist "Candidates Read Off" 2006 7/16/2006 Seven Seattle poets have been nominated by the city's literary community, but only one will become the 2006-2007 Seattle Poet Populist. Seattle 2006 Poet Populist Pesha Joyce Gertler and Friends 4/29/2006 Seattle City Council President Nick Licata and the Seattle Public Library present: "Music and Poetry: Seattle Poet Populist Pesha Joyce Gertler and Friends." Gertler, Seattle's official Poet Populist for 2005-2006, will read her poetry, accompanied by hand drums and a flute. "Pesha sets the standard for Poet Populists to come" said Licata, who launched the program in 1999. "Her readings touch a lot of people who may never have been exposed to poetry - and that's the goal of a poet populist." |
