The American Avant Garde: Linus Phillips, Jeremy Cohen 12/6/2007
The American Avant Garde is back for another episode of Karl Krogstad's wanderings through the world of indie film. This time, he speaks with Linus Phillips about Walking to Werner, a documentary about Phillips' journey on foot from Seattle to Los Angeles to meet director Werner Herzog. Then, it's time for Jeremy Cohen and his film The Great Pretenders, a short satire film about office drones and downsizing.
The American Avant Garde: Conan Gale, Tray White, Jim Marble 10/4/2007
Karl has to watch his sweet tooth with Conan Gale and Alan Sutherland's "I Want Your Cake." Also on the plate is a Minnesota vampire running for Governor, and francophile Jimmy Marble with his STIFF hit tragiromance "Nate and Natalie."
The American Avant Garde: Black Daisy and Christina Engelhardt 9/6/2007
Karl tackles the comedy duo - Black Daisy, with bruising results in the first half of this episode. Fortunately in the second there's a more respectful investigation of the greatest film maker ever to have walked the earth - Federico Fellini. Federico is dead, of course, but his beautiful anima gemella - Christina Engelhardt, shares with Karl some of her experiences of the man.
The American Avant Garde: Film History Special 8/4/2007
Get your notebooks out !! This time Karl takes us through a potted history of cinema, with gems from Ingmar Bergmanj, Frederico Fellini, Jean Cocteau, and Bernardo Bertolucci. Hmmm... a bunch of foreigners, but as Coppola once said "the next great director is probably a 12 year old girl living in Kansas" , or Seattle !!
The American Avant Garde: Ben Russell and David Miller 8/2/2007
From contemptuous, through tempting, to the untemptable - Karl's got his hands full. Tyson Theroux is tasty , while David Miller is arguably nothing short of brilliant, which leaves Ben Russell as the inscrutable one.
The American Avant Garde: Todd Rohal 5/3/2007
Kubrick's ghost is evoked in The Guatemalan Handshake, an epic journey through time - about 2 weeks. The director, Todd Rohal, leads Karl on a merry chase of meaning.
The American Avant Garde 4/5/2007
This time a dynamic duo of female mud wrestling. Starring (not the underdog) Sue Corcoran, and the Italian stallion, Iole Alessandrini.
The American Avant Garde 3/9/2007
This show closes the Coleman Miller saga with a startling revelation from the normally evasive director, followed by a treatise on time and the death of pets by young pup Nathan Williams.
The American Avant Garde 2/15/2007
Finally we get to meet him! This time, from the golden brown snow fields of Minneapolis, Coleman Miller, followed in fame by our local hero, Mr. Paul Alien himself, Alex R. Mayer.
The American Avant Garde 10/30/2004
Here is the scary show, featuring Marc Atwood with "I Died" and Kristl Holtz's "The Serrated Edge". Hold on to yourselves!
The American Avant Garde 8/16/2004
Jim Blaisfield's music videos take you directly to series creator Karl Krogstad's "Fork on a Filling". Then, of all things, we have the courage to show Rick Miller's "Boardwalk".
The American Avant Garde 7/1/2004
The American Avant Garde, hosted by Karl Krogstad, highlights U.S. filmmakers who are taking creative risks and producing work that is innovative and provocative. Program 5 features Jim Blashfields' Mid Torso of Inez.
