City Inside/Out: Sound Transit Proposition 1 10/10/2008
This week's edition of City Inside/Out takes a look at the transit proposal that is on November's ballot. Last year, voters rejected a more ambitious Roads and Transit package. This year's proposal is a $17.9 billion measure that will extend 34 miles of light rail to Lynnwood, Overlake and Federal Way, nearly double Sounder commuter train capacity between Pierce County and Seattle, boost express buses throughout King, Pierce and Snohomish counties, and add a 2-mile STREETCAR line linking Seattle's International District and Capitol Hill. In these hard economic times, will voters be willing to pay a higher sales tax to support increased transit? Does the plan do enough for transportation in the region? We hear from all sides.

STREETCAR Network Forum: Central Line 7/2/2008
The South Lake Union STREETCAR recently celebrated its 6-month anniversary by surpassing original estimated ridership levels which are expected to grow throughout the year. With the first line complete, the City has begun to look at an expanded STREETCAR Network. Four potential new lines have been identified that would connect such neighborhoods as Fremont, Ballard, Eastlake, the University District, and the Central District to Downtown and South Lake Union. Each forum will offer a presentation on the four lines, and then give community members a chance to view them up close and offer feedback.

This historic color film footage from the early 1940's documents the replace of Seattle's STREETCAR system with trackless trolley coaches and motor buses. The transition only took one year to complete and was finished in 1941.
