Seattle business taxes can now be paid on-line SEATTLE – As part of Seattle’s efforts to expand its "e-Government" services, Mayor Greg Nickels announced today Seattle business and occupation taxes can now be reported and paid on-line. The newly launched Seattle Electronic Filing system (SELF) allows businesses to file their city business and occupation tax, and their utility business and occupation tax on-line. They can also use the new system to update business profiles and make electronic payments. SELF’s web address is: https://dea.seattle.gov/self/ "We’re going to make a difference for our customers by delivering services where and when it’s convenient for them," Nickels said. "When businesses asked the city for the ability to file tax returns and make payments on-line, we listened. With just a few mouse clicks, businesses can report their taxes, make payments and even update their account information." Businesses have three payment options: print a voucher and mail with a check; pay by credit card; or pay by a one-time e-check, also known as an "Automatic Clearing House" (ACH) payment. Instructions for using the new system were mailed with third-quarter tax returns. Officials expect about a 5-percent response from quarterly and monthly taxpayers this reporting period. Work is also under way to support on-line renewal and payment of city-issued business licenses. This service is expected to go live for 2005 renewals. - 30 - |
