Seattle Center Major Events and Programs
October - December 2004

Celebrating over 40 years, Seattle Center is a year-round "people place" where landscaped greenery and open spaces blend with concerts, festivals, arts, and sports. More than 10 million visitors of all ages, come each year to delight in the beauty and splendor of the 87-acre campus. Recently noted as "the jewel of the city's public recreation," Seattle Center was named the Overall Favorite Place for Family Fun!

2004 marks the 9th year of Seattle Center's Festál, a series of cultural community festivals and events designed to celebrate, preserve and share the rich traditions of the region's diverse communities with the widest possible audience. Festál is a vital part of Seattle Center's role in helping to build a larger community and is presented by The Seattle Times and Seattle Center Foundation, with support by the Seattle Channel. Festál Cultural Festivals

Italian Festival -- October 2 - 3
Celebrity chefs, mouth-watering aromas and a delightful array of Italian food merchants dish up a gastronomic voyage into this food-oriented culture. Of course, that's not all. A film festival, exhibits, performances, enticing not-for-children-only activities and the fabulously infamous "Bolla Grape Stomp" contest draw visitors from all over. Who can resist? Grab an espresso, rev up your metabolism, and indulge in this extraordinary event. Presented by Festa Italiana. At Fisher Pavilion and Seattle Center Grounds. TurkFest -- October 23 - 24
Turkfest brings the community, groups and artists together to present enchanting examples of Turkish folklore. Local and guest musicians perform traditional and modern Turkish music. Anadolu (Anatolia) Folk Dancers perform a variety of dances in their unique traditional costumes. A fashion show reveals the craftsmanship of dressmaking in Turkey and a carpet show and handcrafting workshops engage the audience for an extraordinary experience while others can enjoy the delicious food prepared by local restaurants. Presented by the Turkish American Cultural Association.

Dia de Muertos - Celebration of Latino Cultures -- October 30 - 31
This important Mexican tradition celebrates life, bringing together creative art, folkloric and modern dance, theater, storytelling, workshops, and music. Interactive displays, a 'town square,' food, and artistic projects from painting to poetry create a festive atmosphere for visitors to participate in authentic Latino culture. Presented by La Casa de Artes.

Hmong New Year Celebration November 6
Hmong New Year marks the lunar new year of this rich highland culture. Originating from Laos, Vietnam, Burma and Thailand, folk arts and traditional performances offer a taste of this unique Asian culture. The bamboo pipe and Jew's Harp, important to Hmong ritual, combine with dance movements to represent song lyrics and music composition. Exquisite costumes enhance the performances, while textile displays offer an up-close look at intricately patterned embroidery. Film, food and children's activities also offer a chance to learn more about Hmong culture. Presented by Hmong Association of Washington.

CroatiaFest - October 10
From the cosmopolitan 1,000-year old capital of Zagreb, the city of history and legends, to the port city of Split, home of Diocletian's Palace, on the Dalmatian Coast; from the ancient walled city of Dubrovnik, the "Pearl of the Adriatic," a favorite of the rich and famous, to the sixteen Plitvice Lakes, one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the world, CroastiaFest at Seattle Center invites you to discover Croatia, one of the last undiscovered treasures on earth.
