Community celebrates new open space in Maple leaf Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Maple Leaf Community Council invite you to celebrate the acquisition of property for a new community garden and park in the Maple Leaf neighborhood, just two blocks from Northgate. Date: Saturday, September 20, 2003 Time: 10:30 am to Noon Location: South side of NE 103rd Street, just east of 5th Avenue NE The program will feature City Council President Peter Steinbrueck, City Councilmember Richard Conlin, Erin Devoto and Donald Harris from Parks and Recreation, Yvonne Sanchez, Director of the Department of Neighborhoods, and Barbara Maxwell of the Maple Leaf Community Council. Light refreshments will be served. The community has envisioned this site as a park and community garden for 13 years. Parks and Recreation purchased the property in August. Funding came from the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund, the King County Conservation Futures Levy, the Neighborhood Matching Fund, and community donations. Come thank the citizens, the family of the former property owner, and the donors who have made this acquisition possible. The planning process for development of the site will begin soon. Learn how you can be involved in the next steps for this new open space. Parking will be limited, so please walk, carpool, or take alternate transportation if possible.
