Trump's immigration "public charge rule" controversy on City Inside/Out
City Inside/Out: Public Charge Controversy
11/16/201829:09

A new federal proposal that changes the rules for low-income legal immigrants is having a chilling effect nationwide. For the first time, the Trump administration wants to weigh the use of public benefits, such as Medicaid, food stamps and housing vouchers, negatively against an application for U.S. permanent residency or citizenship.
