Architect Rex Hohlbein started The BLOCK Project as a novel approach to end homelessness. His idea: place tiny homes - one per block - in backyards across the city. The homes, designed to be completely off-grid, use solar energy and filtered rain water. Hohlbein's approach seeks a different solution to a persistent problem by empowering the community to build community. From Hohlbein's what-if moment to his describing a better way, he's hopeful The BLOCK Project could become a new normal, thus engaging all the components of Eric Liu's strategy of civic power, "Describe the Alternative."
