The Viaduct’s fading shadow
CityStream: The Viaduct’s Fading Shadow

For those working in its shadow, the viaduct's deafening roar was quickly forgotten, its homely appearance, forgiven. After all, its utilitarian design was cheap. Surprisingly, many found comfort in this gray, hulking highway. Maybe it was the breathtaking views of Northwest sunsets or snow-capped Olympic mountains or the deep blue waters of Elliott Bay. Those views are unique to us; maybe that's why our attachment is so personal. But even those who are sad to see it go acknowledge the civic improvements that will follow once the viaduct falls.
