A Seattle-style sendoff for the Alaskan Way Viaduct attracted thousands of nostalgia seekers. The farewell event quickly became a spectacle as performance art swept the span, art cars took imaginary rides, and many lamented the loss of the spectacular view. We captured the Viaduct's final hurrah from start to finish. And as Diane Duthweiler explains, for many, the day of celebration was tinged with sadness knowing the landmark would soon fall.
