Plus sculptor John Grade previews a new masterpiece in the works at MadArt. The poetic duo Iska Dhaaf shakes the rafters of Elliott Bay`s basement reading room. Justin Kane Elder opens up the Electric Coffin Art Collective for a tour. Chris Weber, One Reel`s arts programming manager, teases a few non-music highlights on the Bumbershoot horizon. Watch the evolution of an artwork from Bainbridge Island artist Tracy Lang`s Tsunami Papers series. Lou Henry Hoover (aka choreographer Ricki Mason) takes over the calendar of events and the indie rock band The Blakes play two tunes from their newest CD, “A Darker Green.” Plus a bonus visit by duo LeRoy Bell and Jose Gonzales, working together for the first time on the musical "Passing Strange," scheduled to hit the stage this month.

Art Zone Hedgebrook Special: Women Authoring Change 5/23/2014
In 1985, Seattle philanthropist Nancy Nordhoff bought a working farm overlooking Useless Bay on Whidbey Island. The land became Hedgebrook -- one of the few residency programs in the world exclusively dedicated to supporting the creative process of women writers. This Art Zone special tells the story of the rural retreat on its 25th anniversary. Go inside the world of Hedgebrook with Nordhoff and meet some of the women writers who have inhabited these woods including Gloria Steinem, Valerie Curtis-Newton, Elizabeth Austen, Pramila Jayapal and more.

With retired partner Bruce Pavitt, Poneman co-founded Sub Pop Records in 1988. The independent label was at the vanguard of a cultural revolution and launched seminal Seattle acts like Nirvana, Soundgarden and Mudhoney. Poneman talks with host Nancy Guppy about surviving in a new age of music consumption and accepting his personal challenge with Parkinson`s disease.

Art Zone is awed by the mystifying sculptures of wood carver Dan Webb, whose retrospective "Fragile Fortress" is on exhibit at Bellevue Arts Museum.
