Art Zone with Nancy Guppy features interviews with local artists and performers, reviews and previews of current offerings, and lots of surprises. New episodes of Art Zone with Nancy Guppy premiere Friday nights at 8 p.m., with additional playbacks throughout the week.
Host Nancy Guppy grew up in Seattle and, with the exception of a three-year stint in Los Angeles, has lived in the city her entire life. Before creating arts programming for the Seattle Channel, Nancy spent 10 years as a writer/performer/producer on KING TV's late night comedy show, Almost Live!. Nancy enjoys morning coffee, daily walks, dinner with friends, hang time with husband Joe, and hitting the local art scene as much as she possibly can.
Seattle teen Alexander Soukakos, an up and coming graphic designer, sets sights on New York City; beloved Seattle Art Museum curator Chiyo Ishikawa begins a new chapter; Jed Crisologo from the Sun Killers debuts a new tune; the 21st annual Seattle Sketchfest goes virtual; Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle Arts & Lectures, and ArtsWest Playhouse and Gallery release their online performance schedules; and the Guppy's explore the cool walls and doors of their Queen Anne neighborhood.
"Art Zone with Nancy Guppy" has temporarily morphed into "Art Zone Phones It In," a low-tech scrappy version filmed in the social distancing comfort of Nancy's condo. With Joe Guppy running camera (his iPhone), Nancy and her remote but mighty AZ team curate homegrown video performances by musicians, actors and comedians; present video interviews with artists, city leaders, and owners of art-based businesses; and feature laugh-out-loud moments like cooped-up cat roommates and Nancy giving Joe a much needed, and very bad, haircut.
