Our City, Our SchoolsA look at city investments in education
About Our City, Our Schools
The five-part series highlights levy-funded programs from pre-K through high school. Host Brian Callanan talks with everyone from principals to preschoolers about the Families and Education Levy's successes and its challenges. Is the investment paying off? How are levy programs improving student achievement? What are the benchmarks for measuring the levy's effectiveness?
Four schools within one block of each other in the Rainier Beach neighborhood are collaborating with community groups, businesses and police to prevent youth violence. Just a few months after the "Safe Passage" program began, organizers say it's already working and could serve as a model for other neighborhoods. Representatives from the Safe Passage program, Rainier Beach High School and Seattle Police Department join host Brian Callanan to discuss youth crime prevention efforts on a special edition of Our City, Our Schools - a series which offers an up-close look at Seattle Families and Education Levy-funded programs. Plus, the National Community Anti-Drug Coalition Institute (pdf) outlines some core essentials for addressing juvenile crime.
