Washington state is the battleground for two competing gun measures this fall. Initiative 594 would require universal background checks on all gun sales, while Initiative 591 would prevent the state from having a more stringent standard than the federal one. Gun rights advocates say I-594 would unfairly punish law-abiding gun owners, but I-594`s proponents say they are taking an important step towards public safety. Both sides debate these controversial initiatives which are packing plenty of heat this fall. We hear from Phil Shave of the Washington Arms Collectors Association about the pitfalls of I-594, while Eileen Bennhoff of Mothers Demand Action for Gun Sense argues about the need for stricter gun control. In studio, Phil Watson of the Second Amendment Foundation advocates for I-591, while I-594 supporter Cheryl Stumbo makes the case for universal background checks.
