The recent spate of gang and gun violence involving young people has shocked our nation. Lawmakers in Olympia are considering much tougher sanctions for kids caught with illegal firearms, including mandatory jail time. Will harsher penalties work? We hear from supporters of the proposal as well as a former gang member who is concerned a new law might backfire. In our studio, we get perspective from King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg, Jennifer Shaw of the ACLU of Washington, Leno Rose-Avila of the Seattle Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs. Senator Adam Kline (D-37th) joins the conversation by phone. Will the "tough love" approach to youth violence make the problem better - or worse?
