HAZARD FACTORY/POWER TOOL RACE & DERBY
Hazard Factory, a Seattle-based industrial Arts studio, started the "Power Tool Race & Derby" in 2005, and it's been getting bigger every year. We brought our camera to this year's installment, and it was super-crazy-nutty fun!
AMY O'NEAL
Meet Amy O'Neal. Amy is a dancer and choreographer; a co-founder of 'Locust', a Seattle-based music, dance, and video company; and a energetic, inquisitive artist who is always looking to push the boundaries.
Spectrum Dance, October 3rd - 5th and Moore Theatre, February 27th, 2009
DAVE BECK
KUOW host Dave Beck knows classical music. He plays cello in the Auburn Symphony Orchestra, and has agreed to "school" Art Zone In Studio (i.e. Nancy) on the world of classical music. So far, with his first pick of the St. Helens Quartet, he's batting 1000! Way to go, Dave!
Tribute Concert: Composer Bern Herbolsheimer, Friday, October 3rd, 7:30, PONCHO Concert Hall, 710 East Roy Street, Seattle, Tickets: $15 general, $10 students, alumni & seniors
Sunday, November 2nd, Lopez Center on Lopez Island
ROBERT HORTON
This week Robert Horton talks with Nancy about the new SIFF Cinema calendar of repertory films, including classic horror for Halloween, and previews The Corporal's Diary, an Iraq War documentary at the Grand Illusion.
CALENDAR
Saturday and Sunday, September 27th and 28th
The magical "Butterflies & Blooms" exhibit at Woodland Park Zoo, features close to 1,000 butterflies and dozens of colorful flowering plants. Pack a picnic and bring the family!
Closes Saturday, September 27th, at 5:00 p.m.
You only have a few more days to see "Love Seat", an extraordinary exhibit at Howard House in Pioneer Square. Artist Sean M. Johnson has created precariously balanced sculptures out of common every-day objects such as tables, chairs, cups and bottles, and the effect is surreal and disturbing…but in a good way!
October 2nd, from 4 - 7 p.m.
Join Harborview Medical Center and 4Culture for a first Thursday celebration of new public art in the new Norm Maleng Building. This super cool six-story facility will feature an awesome art collection including architecturally integrated work by Beliz Brother and Gloria Bornstein, six commissioned lobby installations, and a landscape themed collection of 56 wall mounted works.
October 3rd - 8th
The 11th annual "Local Sightings" film festival returns to the Northwest Film Forum, October 3-8, with a bigger and better-than-ever slate of locally made movies, including "Holding This For You", a beautiful short film from dancer/choreographer/filmmaker Marissa Niederhauser.
Now thru October 18th
The fabulous New City Theater is back in the saddle with a brand new space on 18th and Union, and a slate of excellent and unique theatrical offerings, starting with "The Fever." Written by Wallace Shawn, and starring Peter Crook, this thoughtful and compelling one-person show runs now thru October 18th.
(206) 271-4430 1404 18th Avenue tickets
It all starts on November 1st
And finally, art fair-lovers, take note! This fall, Prospect.1 New Orleans, the largest biennial of international contemporary art ever organized in the US, opens to the public in museums, historic buildings, and found sites throughout New Orleans. This first ever event will showcase new artistic practices as well as an array of programs benefiting the local community. It all starts on November 1st, so book your flight now!
